“This is not a time to be thinking about my career or my finances, and I do not think that I should.”
— Ivanka Trump, March 30, 2020.
She is a former CEO of her father’s business empire, and she has a reputation for keeping things as low-key as possible.
But she has been in the public eye recently, with her father facing a sexual harassment scandal that has prompted widespread condemnation and led to a public apology from his wife.
And it was the second time in as many months that Trump made an appearance on the cover of Time magazine.
In May, Time named her “Woman of the Year” for her role in combating the epidemic of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry.
And in November, she was named one of the top 10 women of the 20th century.
“I have done so much for the women in this industry and I am proud to have been a part of that,” Trump said in a statement announcing the cover.
“The people of this country have suffered greatly over the past several decades.
The women in the workforce are now more protected and supported than ever before.
I am honored to be chosen as one of these women’s role models.”
The cover’s headline is based on a Newsweek story published on March 24, 2020, which cited unnamed sources close to Ivanka Trump who said the “most powerful woman in the world” had been offered a $1.9 million home by her husband.
The article said the offer was made “several months ago” and that Ivanka had declined it.
A spokesman for the Trump Organization declined to comment.
The Time cover comes at a time when the Republican Party is trying to turn back the clock.
The party is struggling to recover from a Trump-era wave of misogyny, and some of its members are publicly distancing themselves from the president, who has been accused of sexual assault.
In February, a video emerged of Trump using vulgar language about women in a private meeting with a Japanese businessman.
And last month, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned after admitting to having been sexually inappropriate with a female reporter in the Oval Office.
Trump, however, has never been a vocal critic of the president.
Trump has repeatedly attacked the media, and recently told The New York Times that the media is “trying to destroy us.”
